What I teach
I teach every stage, and most students are preparing for GCSE or A-level. Every lesson is planned around the student, starting from what they already know.
GCSE
Foundation and Higher, all exam boards.
A-level
A-level Maths, from core topics to exam technique.
All other stages
Primary, Key Stage 3, and university-level maths.
How it works
- Send an enquiry with the student's year group and what they want help with.
- We have a short, free intro chat to agree goals and a lesson time.
- Lessons start, with a short summary after each one on what was covered and what to practise.

What people say
“James has a rare ability to make difficult mathematics feel manageable. He quickly identified where my son was struggling and adapted his explanations to suit him. His confidence improved enormously, and so did his results. I would highly recommend James to any student preparing for GCSE or A-level Mathematics.”
“James explains mathematics in a completely different way from what I was used to at school. He doesn’t just show you how to get the answer — he makes sure you understand why it works. I became much more confident tackling unfamiliar questions.”
“Before working with James, I found maths really frustrating. He broke problems down into steps that actually made sense to me and helped me understand where I was going wrong. I felt much more confident going into my exams.”
“James was extremely professional, well prepared and approachable. He understood exactly what my daughter needed and tailored every session accordingly. We saw a noticeable improvement not only in her understanding, but in her confidence.”
“James combines exceptional mathematical ability with a genuine talent for explaining complex ideas clearly. He is patient, rigorous and highly attentive to the needs of the person he is teaching. I would have no hesitation recommending him as a mathematics tutor.”
